Extending the DEVS-Scheme knowledge-based simulation environment for real-time event-based control

چکیده
This article describes an implementation of real-time simulation and control in DEVS-Scheme, a knowledge-based, discrete event environment. We illustrate a methodology in which the plant, its actuators and sensors are described by discrete event models developed within the event-based control paradigm. A model of the controller is employed to validate its design in a plant/actuator/sensor experimental frame. The same model con guration is then employed for actual control operation by connecting the simulation executive, suitably modi ed, to a programmable controller that interfaces to the real plant/actuator/sensor system. We show how this methodology is supported by real-time interpretation of the DEVS (Discrete Event System Speci cation) formalism. A lower bound on the processing speed of a non-deterministic operating system relative to scheduled event times is derived which guarantees correct control timing. We show how the DEVS-based control can be distributed in a hierarchical manner to ensure that the required deadline time constraints are met. As an example, an intelligent controller is discussed for a prototype oxygen extraction system eventually intended to operate autonomously on Mars. We conclude that DEVS provides a exible discrete event formalism for knowledge-based real-time control applications. 1 Research supported by NASA-Ames Co-operative Agreement No. NCC 2525, \A Simulation Environment for Laboratory Management by Robot Organization" and by The University of ArizonaNASA Space Engineering Center.

A Multiconstraint-based Real-time Routing Scheme using Simulation Methodology
In this paper, we propose a multiconstraint-based real-time network routing scheme using simulation methodology. We first discuss how to resolve the multi-constrained path (MCP) problem with a discrete event simulation method. Our proposed Path Selection using Simulation Method (PSSM) can work with a wide class of constraints that properly include the additive constraint assumption required by ...

A new Markov-based method for real time prediction of network transmission time delays is introduced. The method considers a Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) neural model for the transmission network, where the number of neurons in the input layer is minimized so that the required calculations are reduced and the method can be implemented in the real-time. For this purpose, the Markov process order...

Discrete EVent systems Specification (DEVS) is one of the most frequently utilized system specifications to model discrete event systems in the real world. To analyze system behavior, simulation results are collected by executing the DEVS model. Although a large number of results are essential for the accuracy of analysis, the existing execution environment we developed is not focused on faster...
متن کاملA CORBA-Based Distributed Simulation Methodology for Hierarchical DEVS Models
Discrete-event simulation is frequently used to analyze and predict the performance of systems. Simulation of large, complex systems remains a major stumbling block, however, due to the prohibitive computation costs. Distributed simulation offers one approach that can significantly reduce these computation costs. Since distributed simulation deals with large and complex systems, the following i...
